6 Steps to Content Marketing

Step # 1: Attitude

Where does your expertise and a prospective customer's need for content meet? These content areas are key to your content marketing strategy. Your unique content offerings should be relevant to your product and services.

Step # 2: Approach

Ask some questions and listen. Find out what the real pain points of your audience are and fix them. Supply a cure for the pain. Use Twitter Search, Google Alerts and other social media tools to listen to what your customers are struggling with - and strive to solve their problems with content. Dig deep.

Step # 3: Goals

OK - you've listened to your customers and you've figured out how your content can show your expertise. The next step is to figure out your goals. Remember, you can't have plan a strategy without clear goals.

Step # 4: Strategy

Once your goals, approach and attitude are clearly defined - you can work on your strategy.


Step # 5: Tactics

Start by finding the most effective tactics based on the first four steps. An ebook may be trendy but will it really work for your business? Or will a blog reach your audience faster? Is Twitter a good idea for retirees, or will a Facebook cast a wider net? Don't use these tools until you understand why these tactics are a good or bad idea for your organisation.

Step # 6: Execution

Execute the plan. Execution is extremely important, but meaningless without the first five steps.
